Golf is an exciting sport but quite complicated for novices because the rules of this sport are certainly, quite complex and sharp sometimes. But before knowing all the rules, you need to know the definition of certain words.
Study each expression in detail and you will expand your golf vocabulary, and understand all the nuances that this wonderful sport offers.
Definition of golf terms
Address
Position of the player in front of the ball before playing
Approach
Golf stroke is intended to reach the green, when you are close to it, with a movement of reduced amplitude.
Backspin
The back effect is given to the ball. A ball that has a lot of backspin rolls shortly after it impacts the ground.
Wood
A club whose head is made of solid wood or metal is then called “Metallic Wood”. The most common are woods numbered from 1 to 7. They are used to make the ball travel long distances.
Bunker
Depression obstacle covered with sand. There are bunkers near the green but also on the course. They are there to make the course more difficult and penalize bad shots.
Chip
Approach stroke is intended to give the ball an average flight height.
Club
Cane used to send the ball by hitting it.
Shot rolled
Approach shot where the ball rises very little, but rolls a lot. It is played very close to the green.
Dog-Leg
Hole that turns left or right. There are holes in “dog-leg on the right” or “dog-leg on the left”.

Driver
Name commonly given to wood n°1.
Driver Range
The Driver Range is a training ground usually located on the club’s driving range.
Label
Set of rules of the game that are part of the rules of golf defining the attitude that a player must have on the course towards the course and
other players.
Explosion
Approach shot from a bunker where you do not hit the ball directly but the sand that is just behind it.
Fairway
Part of the course was mowed between the tee and green.
Iron
A club whose head, narrow, is made of metal. They are numbered from 1 to 10. Pitching wedges and sand wedges are also made of iron.
Putting green
