Vision

Our events will provide a niche audience the opportunity to enhance awareness, participation, and competitiveness. We look to establish relationships in the community that will be beneficial to the development of aquatic programs for inner city sport. In addition we will offer events for sponsors to utilize as a vehicle for marketing and promotional purposes that will tap into a burgeoning facet of the sport industry. Open Water Swim Competitions.

Open water swimming is an intense, endurance sport taking place in any open body of water such as the ocean, lakes or rivers. Whether training or in competition safety is paramount.

Whatever open water swimming competition you are involved in should have a safety plan in case covering key areas. The number of officials, marshals and safety boats being used in an event will be dependent on a number of variables such as the number of competitors and their age and experience as well as the location of the event and the number of entry and exit points into the water. For instance a lake event where competitors are never far from shore may need fewer safety boats than an event that is in the open sea, which are likely to need a higher boat to swimmer ratio, but in general throughout the competition no swimmer should be further than around 50metres from support in the event of an emergency. The number of officials dedicated to water safety should be in the region of no more than one official to around to every 20 swimmers. There should be race information given to all competitors about the course and current conditions as well as information about the type of the water prior to the event. Other factors that need to be considered in open water swimming competitions are adequate emergency provisions this can range from ensuring appropriate first aid cover as well as ensuring that there are agreed triggers for cutting short or abandoning a race. There also needs to be an event cut off time and after this time all swimmers must leave the water.

Individual swimmers need to think about their safety too, one of the key considerations is of protecting oneself from the cold. A swimming hat is useful to protect from the cold and a nice bright one will make sure you are easily spotted, some events may provide hats but it is useful to check in advance. Swimmers need to be aware of the warning signs of hypothermia such as cramp in the hands and feet and difficulty in focusing. Even experienced swimmers should stop if they experience any of the symptoms of hypothermia. Keeping on course is another issue that swimmers need to be aware of and although buoys will often be used to mark the course these can be sometimes be difficult to see with goggles or with choppy water. Swimmers are advised to use other landmarks where possible to ensure they keep on track.

Open swimming requires a lot of preparation and training but it is also useful to keep relaxed so having something to take your mind off a competition the night before can be useful, whether this is football betting tips or playing chess.
